Sointula, Malcolm Island

Sointula is the primary settlement on Malcolm Island, one of the largest islands between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia. It is located just off the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, about seven kilometers from the town of Port McNeill. This region is known as the "North Island" - wild, beautiful, thinly populated, but quite accessible.
The community of Sointula lies on Malcolm Island's southwestern coast. This location ensures great sunset views and somewhat, sunnier weather than on Vancouver Island itself. Houses, many of them colourfully painted, perch on the streets above the sea. Boat sheds, net lofts, and old-fashioned wood-fueled saunas extend along the shoreline.

All areas of the Island are well-serviced with accommodations, including cozy cottages and bed and breakfast retreats.

Wild Island Foods Cooperative

Wild Island Foods Cooperative, based in Sointula, British Columbia, is an innovative and sustainable community-oriented venture.

A community cooperative, Wild Island Foods is establishing an ethical, innovative food processing facility and product development service.
Wild Island Food Cooperative is offering an opportunity like no other in Coastal British Columbia.

Wild Island Foods Cooperative opened in 2001 to provide food production facilities for islanders wishing to produce and market their own food and beverage products. Our first tenant in our food production facility downstairs is Island Harvest Jam Company, and they should be in full production by July 2005, producing jams made with Vancouver Island berries.
